FROM PATRICE, S.A.V.E.

Autumn is a sweet gentle dog, who had been rescued after giving birth to puppies in a cemetery. She had had a very hard life scrounging around and trying to find shelter and a little food in the cold cemetery, and we are pretty sure she had been abused by children or teenagers as she is terrified of them. As a matter of fact, Autumn was the shyest dog we had, and there were times when we were really worried that she had only the slimmest chance of ever being adopted.

When we first saw her at the little dog house, where she had been boarded , she was so shy she wouldn't even let anyone pet her at all. She certainly wouldn't come out of her cage, and she certainly wouldn't go for a walk .

Our volunteers sat with her, talked to her, fed her and befriended her and little by little she became friendlier. Small victories, like her eating a treat we offered her led into bigger victories like being able to pet her, and then bigger accomplishments, like Autumn walking out of her cage and then running right back, and then even more exciting progress, when we discovered Autumn liked playing with boy dogs and she ran around and played with them and didn't run back to her cage anymore . She had always looked so sad, but then we saw her smile, and it was like a cloud was lifted from her! Autumn was finally able to go for a walk to the park and around the blocks, still shying away when she saw kids, but able to enjoy the grass and air and sunshine and a nice walk .

Now we have the most joyous event of all — Autumn's Adoption! Renee and Eric who volunteer with the dogs at the little dog house, love Autumn, and have adopted her into their home , where Autumn now lives with 4 cats! Autumn sits on her futon , happy and content in her new home , and in fact just went on a family trip to Pennsylvania where she got to make new friends, and go for walks in the countryside. Everyone who knows and loves Autumn is so happy for her and so grateful to Renee and Eric for all their kindness and for giving Autumn the loving home she really needed and deserved!

Note from Patrice, S.A.V.E
[This] picture is of our wonderful volunteer friend Renee, who is pictured at home with Autumn and her cat sisters! Autumn was one of the Little Dog House Dogs, who used to live in the cemetary, but now has been adopted by Renee and Eric (who walk the little dog house dogs on Saturdays and are always there to volunteer for whatever needs to be done). Renee and Eric also fostered and then adopted Petra, a very loving sweet 10-year-old black cat, pictured on the bed. What a happy wonderful family!
