A great big thank you to Jamie for this note about Roxanne:

Thanks for helping out with Roxanne. As it turns out, we've decided we can work it out with her. She used to jump uncontrollably every time any one of us walked through the door and wouldn't calm down for hours. She was also a handful around the house and I just felt we didn't have the time or energy for her. I know I should have thought about that before we got her, but the kids were begging for a dog and I gave in too easily. Once we put her up for adoption, I felt guilty and the children were really sad.

We got our act together and started walking her in the mornings for a little exercise instead of just letting her run out in the backyard, and every night when I would get home from work I would ignore her jumping and then 5 minutes later, I would acknowledge her like you suggested. I'm telling you, that really worked because now she doesn't expect anything the minute I walk in the door and actually waits for me to give her undivided attention a few minutes later. I can't tell you what a difference that makes! I'm not attacked the minute I get home and she has something to look forward to as well. I also made it a daily responsibility for each child to play with her a few minutes each day, explaining that the dog needs affection just as they do.

Roxanne is so happy now and so are we. I'm sorry to have bothered you and your friend by putting her on that site, but it made us do what we had to so please tell her thank you from all of us. Roxanne is a keeper and I'd say that we're the lucky ones!

Jamie
