in memory
In memory of the homeless animals who didn't find a home.
May the broken hearts of shelter workers be mended, and may the lost animals be remembered with love.

FROM PATRICE, S.A.V.E.
05.12.03

Thema (formerly Abby) was rescued from a killing shelter, where she had been abandoned. S.A.V.E. took her in and here she is a month later, with her terrific new family consisting of daddy Kirk and mommy Nikki in a lovely home upstate in the country, a new schnauzer brother named Trooper, and obviously lots of love and a new wonderful life. Thema's new family loves to hike and camp and we look forward to seeing her with a little back pack on, walking alongside Trooper, out on the trails soon.

FROM THEMA'S MOM

Weighing 30 some pounds at 3 feet in length, Thema (thEE-ma), the new big sister, looks so nice with Trooper! Theema, mostly an African hound type, called a basenji, was from S.A.V.E., a rescue down in the city.

We are very glad that she is here! We are looking forward to Memorial Day weekend, during which we will be going on a 3-day backpacking trip with Thema and Trooper and some friends. We think she will really enjoy visiting the outdoors with us and sleeping in a tent!

FROM THEMA'S MOM
05.22.03

hi, patrice--
we have more pictures of thema to send, and will do so soon. she is doing very well. her heat cycle has definitely subsided, and the "hump-fest" that was going on at our house the first few days is over. now trooper and thema just wrestle and play, and occasionally we even catch them curled up side-by-side taking a nap. :) thema has been granted full access to the house while we are gone for the day, and she has behaved very well. she has also settled down at night, and has been finishing her breakfast and dinner with a happy wag each day. we are slowly training her on the invisible fence system, and she is a smart dog and is learning quickly. our lunch-time dogwalkers think she is fabulous, and they have enjoyed sharing time with her at mid-day while mom and dad are at work. thema got a clean bill of health last week at the vet. we are gearing up for some backpacking/hiking this holiday weekend, and plan to go to massachusetts or vermont along the appalachian trail. however, the rain may shorten our trip. we'll certainly have pictures of hiking to send you next week.

take care, nikki

Update
05.30.03
Thema and Trooper love hiking. Thema may like human affection even more. They both can agree that after a long day of PULLING their masters through the forest, a nap by the campfire and a long snooze in the tent is just reward.
