in memory
In memory of the homeless animals who didn't find a home.
May the broken hearts of shelter workers be mended, and may the lost animals be remembered with love.

PET TIPS
OCTOBER 2002

Halloween may be fun for your and your kids, but to your pets, it can be downright scary. Here are a few things to keep in mind this October 31st to keep your little four-legged friend's stress level under control:

1. Keep your pet inside. If possible, place him or her in a quiet room so as to avoid being frightened by excessive or loud noises, constantly ringing doorbells and excited kids. Your pet may run out of the house if upset or frightened and become lost or hurt.
If you suspect your pet has gotten into Halloween treats or the decorations and is acting out of sorts, consult your vet immediately.

2. Keep sweets and treats away from your pet. Some candy, particularly chocolate, can be toxic and make your pet sick. Be sure to tell your kids it's not a good idea to share their Halloween stash with your pet–and be careful too that your pet doesn't get into those tempting empty wrappers!

3. Halloween decorations such as spider webs, plastic insects, balloons, streamers and the like may prove to be too enticing to ignore, so place all decorations out of the reach of curious paws.

4. Costumes for pets are cute but be cautious with any article with rubber bands. Left on for long periods or forgetten about by mistake, the bands could cut off your pet's circulation or bind into the skin.

5. Please don't take your pet with you on your visits around the neighborhood. Too much excitement will be unsettling for your pet, and an encounter with other unfamiliar animals could result in a fight or injury.

Follow these few easy tips and ensure your little friend will stay safe on this spooky night!
